District of Columbia ENERGY STAR^® Appliance Rebate Program

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Rebates for Weatherization are no longer available.

IMPORTANT NOTICE (Effective March 25, 2011): The District Department of the Environment has increased the rebate amounts for qualifying ENERGY STAR^®-rated electric appliances as follows:

Clothes washers: From $125 to $250*
Dishwashers, Tier 1: From $50 to $100
Dishwashers, Tier 2: From $75 to $150
Refrigerators: From $50 to $200
Electric heat pump water heaters: From $300 to $600

*There are no longer two tiers for clothes washers. In order to be eligible for a rebate, clothes washers must meet January 1, 2011, energy standards.

In addition, the rebate amounts for the following qualifying ENERGY STAR^®-rated gas appliances have also increased:

Residential gas boilers: From $300 to $600
Residential gas furnaces: From $200 to $400
High-efficiency gas storage water heaters: From $200 to $400

If you have already received a rebate through the program for one of the electric appliances listed above, you will automatically receive a check for the difference between the item's original rebate value and the new increased value. (You will not need to call us or send any documentation to receive the additional amount.) Rebate increases for gas appliances are not retroactive.

District of Columbia residents who replace an existing appliance with a new ENERGY STAR^® appliance purchased on or after October 25, 2010, are eligible to apply for the rebate (no retroactive rebates will be allowed). Approved applicants will receive a check via mail. ACT NOW! Rebates are not guaranteed and are given out on a first-come, first-served basis. This program ends as soon as funds are exhausted. Rebates must be postmarked within 60 days of purchase.

Consumers will be required to repay any rebate funds received if they later return the appliance for any reason and do not replace it with a qualifying appliance within the same category.
