Appliance Removal

The Appliance Rebate Program requires consumers to remove their old appliance from the home. Consumers generally have three appliance removal options:

  1. Allowing the retailer to haul it away
  2. Taking the old appliance to a recycling center themselves
  3. Having bulk trash pick it up (a confirmation number is required for bulk trash pickup).

The goals of the Appliance Rebate Program are to save energy, help protect our environment and save natural resources. Materials from a recycled appliance can be remanufactured into other products, so fewer raw materials have to be utilized.

Most old appliances can be collected by retailers upon delivery of the new product. Certain fees for recycling may apply from the retailer due to the proper recovery and treatment of refrigerant, foam removal and mercury switches from the old appliance. Refrigerants must be properly recovered using EPA-certified refrigerant recovery equipment.
